Hunting big game in sweden

Wild Pursuits Guiding

Our Swedish big game hunting program Is perfect for smaller teams of rifles who prefer a more personal hunting experience than the traditional driven game days mostly found throughout Europe.

Our grounds are a good mix of forestry and arable land that provide the perfect habitat for many different species. The species that are of particular interest to our hunting teams include wild boar, fallow deer, roe deer and red deer. We use a selection of highseats, towers and natural topography to stand hunters whilst waiting on feed areas or for the mini drives that we do during hunting days.

Because we cater for smaller groups of hunters we can generally tailor our days to the requirements of the groups of hunters who are with us. Obviously the time of year makes a big difference to what species are in season and what type of hunt will be most fruitful. What helps our hunting programs produce so many successful outings is the attention to regular feeding and where and when animals are spending their time through carefully placed trail cams.

What to expect

(The format of the day varies at different times of the year)

During a typical day you and your team will rise early from your beds and be taken to your individual high seat or hunting tower, at certain times you will also have the opportunity to take it in turns to stalk with a guide in some of the hunting areas. After this morning hunt you will be collected with any of the animals you have successfully shot that will be gralloched before heading to a cafe for breakfast. During breakfast your guides will explain in detail how the next part of your day is going to work and also answer any questions you might have.

After breakfast you will be taken out into the hunting area again and this time placed in a stand, highest or tower for the first of the driven hunts. Each member of the shooting team will be given a radio and headset, this will mean that any messages that the driving team need to get to the guns can be received and ensure a safe and organised hunt. Once everyone is in position the guides and dogs will start to move any animals that are in the grounds towards the standing guns. This is an extremely exciting way to hunt as the noises of the dogs and the updates on the radio will keep you on edge the whole time. When the wild boar or deer do break past your location the adrenaline will be on full flow and this is the drug that keeps people coming back for more year after year.

Depending on the where it is, the size of the grounds and how the first driven hunt has gone will determine if we will do one or two drives that day. We aim to finish one or two drives by mid afternoon in time for a late lunch, this will give you time to relax a bit before we head back out to some different high seats and towers for the evening.

Once the evening session has concluded you will be picked up and taken back to your accommodation for your evening meal whilst the guiding team takes the animals back to the chiller and prepares for the following days hunt.

During the days we try and rotate each of the team to give everyone the best chances to target particular species that they may have a preference to shoot. If required your game can be processed and purchased and sent back with you home, we can also organise trophy’s to be mounted for the addition fee of the taxidermist if wished.

Hospitality

We try to keep our hospitality in line with traditional Swedish hunting days, We stop between each session for a Swedish Fika. Fika is a time to rest and take it all in and this will always include a cup of coffee and some Swedish pastries. Lunches will normally be cooked on a fire out in the hunting grounds, we like to serve sausages, burgers or kababs made with game from the same terrain, as well as suitable sides, washed down with some beer, wine or soft drinks.

What to Bring

If you are bringing your own rifles then this is something that we will gladly help you organise it as long as it is cal 6.5x55SE or bigger, if not we can rent out estate rifles for your stay. Depending on the time of year of your visit can make a big difference to the clothing required, making sure that you bring a good selection of layers will help deal with any weather conditions you are likely to encounter. Outer layers should be weatherproof, made of a silent material and be of natural colours, for driven hunts we will provide hi vis hats for safety reasons but is is good for you to have your own non hi vis hats as well. A face vail or buff is also a great bit of clothing for these trips as they conceal your face from game and also help keep the wind or sun off your neck depending on the day. A sturdy set of walking boots is also advised as these will help keep your feet warm and dry in all weather conditions.

We provide full gear lists and Itineraries with booking confirmation but for more details please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
